ANNUAL BENEFIT CONCERT

FOR THE NEWMAN STUDENT AWARD FUND

DESCRIPTION:

This year's Annual Newman Student Award fund-raiser will feature “ New Rigged Ship… Tunes and Tales from Scotland and Shetlands ”. The duet will include Emmy award winner, Jacqueline Schwab, on piano and, Reinmar Seidler, on cello (in Scotland , the "great fiddle").

As New Rigged Ship the duo performs vigorous strathspeys , tender airs , and wild reels , with a new twist; here the two instruments swap roles as solo voice and accompaniment. Additional spice is added with selections from the great old stories of trows (trolls), silkies , and trickster fiddlers .

The documentary filmmaker Ken Burns says "Jacqueline Schwab brings more feeling and intensity to music than anyone I know". Both Schwab and Seidler have performed for many of the Ken Burn's documentaries.

As always, friends and family members of the Greater Boston Chapter from near and far are cordially invited to attend and enjoy an evening of exhilarating music and Mary Newman's gracious hospitality as well as demonstrating our support for the Robert Bradford Newman Student Award Fund.

The Newman Fund is now in its 23rd year. The enclosed 2006 Newman Fund Newsletter highlights the Fund's activities over the past year, which are possible only because of the continued generous support of so many over the years

Immediately after the concert, award will be presented for the very first GBCASA Community Service Awards.

We look forward to seeing you May 17th.
