Acoustical Society of America

Greater Boston Chapter
May 9th Meeting Notice

Joint Meeting w/ Boston Audio Engineering Society, Boston Audio Society and SMPTE New England

TOPIC:

DISCUSSION:

We have a great opportunity to experience a performance by the Boston Ballet at the Wang Center. We will offer dinner and a show for a discounted price and have arranged for Group Tickets to a performance of Romeo and Juliet. Guests are always welcome.

Before the performance there will be a short presentation by Jonathon McPhee the music director for the Boston Ballet and John Allen the resident sound designer for the Ballet. They will also be available for a quick tour after the performace.

This presentation is Act II of their presentation at the Wallace Clement Sabine Symposium in 1994. Their original paper discussed orchestra pit design and the sound reinforcement system utilized for Ballet performances. Although technology has advanced significantly since then, what the audience expects to hear from the pit orchestra has not changed.
Using a combination of natural non-amplified sound and sound reinforcement, the presenters have worked together to create a pleasing listening environment throughout the hall.

ACCESSIBILITY:

FM loop systems are available for use at this event. If any other accommodations are needed to participate in this event, please let us know as soon as possible.
